Reliable Dielectric Evaluation Across Wide Temperature Ranges
As performance demands on materials continue to rise, verifying their behavior under actual operating conditions has become increasingly critical. However, performing reliable permittivity measurements over a wide temperature range has long been a technical challenge. Recommended thickness
The appropriate sample thickness depends on the dielectric properties of the material and the resonator being used. As a general guideline, a thickness of approximately 50 to 100 μm is recommended. The sample must be made thinner as the measurement frequency increases or as the dielectric constant (Dk, ε′) and dielectric loss (Df, tanδ) increase.
The graph below shows the maximum sample thickness at which a low-loss material can be measured correctly at measurement frequency of each fixture. For higher-loss materials—typically those with a tanδ greater than 0.01—an even thinner sample may be required. Please use the "Maximum Thickness Calculator" below to determine an approximate maximum measurable thickness. If you are only able to prepare a thicker sample, please contact us for advice.
