Conductivity of Copper Foil Bonded to a Dielectric Using a Fabry-Perot Resonator (23 - 170 GHz)

Measurement Results

  • Bare copper foil and copper foil laminated with a dielectric were measured using Fabry-Perot resonators (FP-CND-BB and FP-CND-D).
Conductivity of bare and dielectric-bonded copper foil from 23 to 170 GHz

Key Point!

  • Conductivity can be evaluated even when a dielectric is laminated with the copper foil.
  • The conductivity of the copper foil alone can be obtained by mathematically removing the dielectric contribution.
  • Continuous data from 23 to 170 GHz can be obtained with no discontinuities when switching resonators.
Interface conductivity measurement of copper foil bonded to a dielectric

Surface conductivity can be evaluated even on the surface where the dielectric and copper foil are bonded, as shown in the figure. The conductivity calculation takes the dielectric properties into account. In this example, the bare copper foil and the copper foil laminated with a dielectric produced the same conductivity values.

* The dielectric thickness, permittivity, and loss tangent must be known in advance.
